Let's Be Social at Work

smsb_lg.jpg
No, I’m not talking about hosting an ice cream or pizza get together in the breakroom. Even though an ice cream sundae with strawberries, chocolate and whip cream does sound good. Excuse me, I digress. Nor am I talking about a dance in the company’s cafeteria. “Social at work” is about providing employees with social media tools to enhance collaboration (particularly across silos and geographies), decision-making, transparency, participation in initiatives and innovation.

What we learned from giving away a million dollars

CARD ART_FedEx -low.jpgWhoever thought giving away $1 million dollars would be easy? I thought it would be easy, along with a team of committed FedEx colleagues who also have the purple blood of FedEx.

In a social media savvy world, it’s been no secret that FedEx teamed up with American Express on their second annual Small Business Saturday program including a commitment to give away 30,000, $25 gift cards on our Facebook page. (The remaining 10,000 cards were given directly to some of our customers to distribute.)

The Power of Connectedness

We’ve heard the statistics but they remain staggering:
- Facebook is now the third-most populous community on Earth, with 70% of its users outside of the United States.
- Tumblr is an emerging player in social media, nearly tripling its audience from a year ago.
- Tout enables people to quickly update their Facebook friends and Twitter followers with real-time short video updates captured from smart phones.
- 67% of the world’s population has a mobile phone subscription. Nearly 40 percent of social media users access social media content from their mobile phone.
- For every 10% rise in mobile phone subscriptions in emerging markets, GDP rises 0.8%. A 10% rise in broadband Internet use boosts GDP by 1.3%. (Source: World Bank)

That’s the power of Connectedness...

How Hashtags, @mentions, and FedEx Work Together: Customer Service in the Twitter-verse

Sheila.Dallas.JPG...About a year ago, @FedExRobin (that’s really one of our Twitter Reps’, or “tweeter’s” names!) caught the attention of renowned author, Marsha Collier. Some of you may recognize Marsha’s name as she has written several of the “… for Dummies” books. Marsha was so impressed by FedEx Robin that she devoted a chapter to FedEx in her latest book, “The Ultimate Online Customer Service Guide”. So, we decided to invite Marsha to the Dallas Call Center on Tuesday, April 19th to meet FedEx Robin in person!...

FedEx Delivers at SXSWi

As technology becomes more innovative, it’s important for us to stay up to date with what is new and relevant, and who the people creating new technologies are. That’s why we decided to have a presence at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas.

There are dozens upon dozens of brands vying for attention at SXSWi, so we knew our outreach had to do something big, smart and authentic to stand out from the crowd. It also needed to provide a benefit for busy conference-goers, while delivering messaging about the FedEx brand and its services.

To help demonstrate the international shipping capabilities of FedEx, we created a food truck that looked just like a FedEx delivery truck, and drove it into Austin during SXSWi
