Stepping Forward on International Walk to School Day

While New Year’s signals fresh resolutions for the majority of us, for kids (and their parents), fall and the beginning of a new school year is the time to commit to starting off the year right. Diligence in studying or completing homework is a common goal, but also other activities such as learning a new musical instrument or playing a team sport become greater priorities.

Start of School Means Commute Changes

The other day I went back-to-school-shopping with my seven and eight year-olds. While I think they were happy to get cool new sneakers, their enthusiasm faded as we moved towards school supplies like folders, paper, pens and pencils. It didn’t take long before I could see the look of “Can we just get this over with?” written on their faces.

Summer Driving Safety

As an avid runner, I enjoy warm summer days when I can lace up my shoes and go for a jog through my neighborhood. I also enjoy the longer hours of sunshine, and watching the neighborhood kids taking advantage of the extra daylight with games of dodge ball, football, or street hockey. But it also scares me a little because I know there are many times that kids go chasing after a ball and forget to look for oncoming traffic.

Daydream in Green!

The submitted artwork was colorful, creative, and illustrated a ton of talent, but most of all, it was inspiring. These children understood that creating a more sustainable future requires us to recycle, use alternative forms of energy, plant trees and always take care of the world.

The Heart of America and FedEx Present School with Bright, New Reading Corner

FedEx Volunteers.JPGLast week marked the celebration of a new era of reading and cultural enrichment for the students at Paint Branch Elementary School in College Park, Md., as FedEx volunteers placed finishing touches and unveiled the school’s newly revamped READesign® Reading Corner.

Volunteers arranged books on shelves and assembled furniture in the freshly painted Reading Corner. After the unveiling, volunteers visited the classrooms to distribute take home books and read to the children...
